Used to stuff things in my shirt or jacket until I got a bagger.

Took a Willie and Max D-Ring velcro apart, fastened it under my seat. Added two more behind the seat and used the W and M trademark to make my homemade butt pad look better? HA Bungy my back pack to it using mini sissy pad/helmet rack as a stop. Still need bags for misc stuff and on a Deuce they actually to me make the fender blend in better. Still have the rear rack and Harley luggage for when I retire and get young again????YA probably go in a garage sale someday. Fine art hanging on the garage wall...

Back pack or a pony express bag, I think they call them a man purse!

I've grocery shopped on bike before. Just put the grocery bag in front of me and used my legs to hold it up. It was a bit awkward but worked for me. When I had to stop, I'd use only the foot brake and held the bag with my right hand

There's a bungie net on the passenger part of my seat at all times. I can carry a 6 pack real easy up against my sissy bar. But you specified no passenger seat so I guess it don't count. Before I got the net I had to clench a bag between my teeth once. Not too far from home though.

Bungee Bitch Straps. http://www.bungeebitchstrap.com/

They have no hooks to scratch paint. I have two pairs and they work great!

Many times just needed a few things from the grocery store so I just take the plastic bags they give me and tie a square knot around the handle bar between the risers. they can't go anywhere and you can load three of four of them. windshield helps.
