If you plan on touring buy a touring bike. If your into looks and trading up in the future then get the softail!

I love my Heritage. For the style riding I do it fits me fine. If I was going to go on LONG trips I might change, but not for now anyway.

Oh now I disagree. Put 25K on my Heritage in the last year and a half. It may not be a touring bike but it sure has done a bit of it . . . and I'd not want it to find out that it's not a touring bike.

Other than looks which are personal taste thing , what would the Softail do better? Nothing!

Not even a contest! RK hands down!

From the looks of it these bikes share all the same basic parts. Aside from some different accessories like handle bars, seat, saddle bags and exhaust what exactly is the difference? I think the RK has dual front disks which will give way better braking.

RK: touring frame, cruise control, ABS, security, air shocks on rear that are easy to adjust, 180 rear tire, crash bars, dual disk brakes, and passenger floorboards, to name a few.

Personally, the only real difference between them to me is the length & the RKC having the option of cruise control.

With a seat more fitted to me, I'd happily ride long distances on my wife's Fatboy, and I'd imagine the Heritage being the same. Though cruise for those long stretches of highway is SOOOO nice, I don't see it being worth the price difference between them.

Neither are my cup of tea, but I'd be hard pressed to choose.
If I did a *LOT* of long distance riding, I'd go for the RKC as that's what it's made for. If 90% of my riding was in-town and/or short (less than 2 hours at a stretch), then I'd go with the Softail.

I would pick the Heritage if it was me, but lots of people love the Road King. Pick what makes you happy!
