Has anyone had any experience trying to remove non-factory pin stripping. I know oven cleaner will do it, but if you dont watch it will eat through the clear. I am looking for ideas. I have all winter to get it done. I do have access to a buffer, but it did not do much being the stripping is fairly new. thanks for the help.
Don't use oven cleaner. All you have to do is heat it up with a hair dryer on hot and slowly start to peel it back, it will come right off. (unless someone clear coated over it) Then after you get the striping off, follow up with some goo gone, rinse, dry, way.

Just make sure its vinyl striping and not paint.
I think he's talking about the striping you get at the Rallies thats hand painted !
That paint is enamel based. Unfortunately anything that is going to take it off will go into your clear too. A common brand of it is one shot. You can try the one shot brand thinner, wet it on a rag and wipe it don't rub it but you will still probably have to reclear your tins.
I tried oven cleaner on an inconspicuous place. I kept whipping it off and reapplying. The stripping did come off but so did some of the clear coat. I was able to use a buffer to make it nice and shiny. I am apprehensive to do this on very visible parts of the bike though so i was looking for a safer solution.
I am a body technician and custom painter, and have dealt with this a lot in the past. Painted stripes: A little acetone and a quick wipe makes fast work of single stage on top of clearcoat... just don't try it with the stripes painted over single stage.
Peel and stick pinstripes (vinyl stripes): Use a power drill and an eraser disc. This also works great on painted on stripes, btw.
