My oldest son lives in Vegas. My wife and I go visit. Then with my son,a couple of his co-workers and friends take one day and ride to the River Run. We have done this for the past four years and will go again this year.
I always enjoyed the loop to Laughlin across into Az. and down to Oatman then take the original part of 66 (1926) to Kingman AZ which is a great ride.
We just spend one day and do lunch at a Casino. I do get my annual Laughlin t-shirt. Don't care how many or what kind of vendors are there.
I have never experienced oppressive law enforcement. In fact last year was the least amount that I have seen. From Vegas and back I have never seen a bike pulled over but every year there are a number of cars stopped as they were not aware of that there was more attention due the the rally.
If you go to any rally and get a ticket you have to be brain dead. Every biker knows that they will be entering an increased enforcement yet they still do speeding, burnouts and whatever. Again plain dumb.
I went last year for the first time and had a great time. My whole goal was just to have a good time. We have two rooms booked and four bikes ready to go this year!
Last year, (my third time going) was the first time I saw police parked in the left turn lane with flashers on every block on the main drag.
I never saw them, but a buddy said 20 Mongols were walking around the Aquarius Casino and then the cops came out of the wood work.
Earlier that day, 3 squad cars, 3 motor cops and 4 horse cops all pulled a group of 4 bikes over as they pulled into the Colorado Belle parking lot.
Rumor was some in the group had pulled guns on would-be bike thieves caught in the act. Some scared rubbernecker or one of the thieves must have called the po po.
Nugent's drummer, Mick, lives here at my condos. Saw him yesterday and he said they're the opening act before REO Speedwagon and Styx. Said Ted didn't care as long as they get to play. Mick is going to get me VIP tickets backstage so I'll be there.

Last time I was there during the rally I saw 4 horse-mounted LEOs surround a guy and arrest him for jaywalking. I don't mind the presence but there are lots of cops out after dark. I was walking a parking lot with a friend and looking at all the bikes when a helicopter hovered overhead and hit us with searchlights. We waved and they moved on. I was there in '02 also and got a call Sunday morning from home asking if I was alright. Never heard about the shooting till then.I still enjoy the rally, lots of Cali girls to ogle!
There's a couple of us from DC riding out, leaving DC on April 19th. Probably going to be on I40 most of the way anyone us riding from the east coast want to try and meet up for the ride out?
