Thanks. Of course this is what I wanted to hear.

I had a Angio-plasti (sp?) with a baloon, then a stent to keep it open. One. I will change my diet. I've always exercised.

I've had two so far. Other than meds and diet my life is the same. I think the most important thing is what does your cardiologist say??

I hope you continue to ride. To me it is total relaxation and probably good for your health. i hope everything goes really well for you.

Once you're well enough, no reason NOT to ride. May as well give up driving too if that is going to be made an issue. And IMO riding is stress relieving (mostly). So it helps to ride.

...just don't ride DURING an attack.

Hi Whaap, I hear a lot of people talking about changing their diet but no one ever says what they eat now. I would like to know what people are told to eat to stay healthy. I know to stop the greasey fast food but other than eating more veggies what do you eat? I haven't had a heart attack and I don't want to have one in the future. maybe if I eat like I had one, I won't have one. Thx

I'm fresh out of the hospital. Should I still ride when I get my strength back?

I've always been in perfect health, no problems ever. Last month Mom was hospitalized; drove cross-country to stay with her. Mom died; drove cross-country to the funeral. Work projects didn't get done; needed for raise. Also been using too much coffee and pastries to stay awake the last several months.

Last weekend had chest pains. 95% blockage; 10% heart function loss. 58. Now on blood thinner for a year. The wife's been on blood thinner for 12 years with her heart problems.

I can't stand the thought of selling my Harley, but I don't want to be stupid. However, riding is the only thrilling/fun/stress buster/getaway I have. Again, however, I'd almost have to sell it to do something else; rv, or retire, or...

I'd like to hear from others who have had to make these kinds of decisions.

Thanks

I had (5) Stints put in last year (2) 95% blocked (2) 75% blocked (1) 40% blocked
My doctor said ten days off the bike then go as I normaly do.

I rode 50,000+ miles last year and I'm at 70,000 miles already this year.

I have other medical problems as well as the heart, doctor says do what I like to
do, lifes to short not to and I agree with him.

I've been to close to not being here 3 times in my life, once I drowned
(dead 5 minutes) twice on a motorcycle (once dead 6 to 8 imutes)
second time (dead for over 12 minutes) so I know how short life can be.
IMO if you can't do what you love to do in your life the game is over,
so even if I was told not to ride I'd be riding anyways, but thats just my
way of dealing with lifes problems and I would not tell anyone to do
the same, so do what works for you my friend, your the only one you
need to make happy in your life!

Good Luck and if you ever feel the need to talk my

Heart attack or no heart attack, this is irrelevant to riding. You must take care of your health. Are you a diabetic. I am 67 yr young and I happen to be a doctor. I have diabetes for 20 years. I enjoy being a diabetic and I say it is a blessing for me. I take minimal dose of insulin and eat a low fat diet (25 gms of fat a day, no more, i am vegetarian). I have more energy than ever before. (I had 5 artery bypass surgery 11 years ago; almost died twice.) I run and jog. I am not afraid of a stroke or a heart attack again. I keep my cholesterol and other values at better than ideal levels. I started riding HD Softail last year.

Avoid modern miracles of medicine (if possible) and live more healthy (eat right, excercise, keep below ideal weight, and educate yourself on a healthy lifestyle)..it is not that difficult but takes some undestanding and passion for life. That much for now...it is about 45 F in michigan, gone for a ride.

Had 2 stents put in about a year ago. One 100% blocked, one 80%. I hadn't ridden in many years, putting the bike away when the kids were small. In May of last year, I decided that if I was going to live, I was going to live the way I wanted. Went out and bought a Dyna, and my health hasn't suffered at all.
