Heart Attack. Still Ride?
Thanks. Of course this is what I wanted to hear.
I had a Angio-plasti (sp?) with a baloon, then a stent to keep it open. One. I will change my diet. I've always exercised.
...just don't ride DURING an attack.
I've had two so far. Other than meds and diet my life is the same. I think the most important thing is what does your cardiologist say??
I'm fresh out of the hospital. Should I still ride when I get my strength back?
I've always been in perfect health, no problems ever. Last month Mom was hospitalized; drove cross-country to stay with her. Mom died; drove cross-country to the funeral. Work projects didn't get done; needed for raise. Also been using too much coffee and pastries to stay awake the last several months.
Last weekend had chest pains. 95% blockage; 10% heart function loss. 58. Now on blood thinner for a year. The wife's been on blood thinner for 12 years with her heart problems.
I can't stand the thought of selling my Harley, but I don't want to be stupid. However, riding is the only thrilling/fun/stress buster/getaway I have. Again, however, I'd almost have to sell it to do something else; rv, or retire, or...
I'd like to hear from others who have had to make these kinds of decisions.
Thanks
I had (5) Stints put in last year (2) 95% blocked (2) 75% blocked (1) 40% blocked
My doctor said ten days off the bike then go as I normaly do.
I rode 50,000+ miles last year and I'm at 70,000 miles already this year.
I have other medical problems as well as the heart, doctor says do what I like to
do, lifes to short not to and I agree with him.
I've been to close to not being here 3 times in my life, once I drowned
(dead 5 minutes) twice on a motorcycle (once dead 6 to 8 imutes)
second time (dead for over 12 minutes) so I know how short life can be.
IMO if you can't do what you love to do in your life the game is over,
so even if I was told not to ride I'd be riding anyways, but thats just my
way of dealing with lifes problems and I would not tell anyone to do
the same, so do what works for you my friend, your the only one you
need to make happy in your life!
Good Luck and if you ever feel the need to talk my

Avoid modern miracles of medicine (if possible) and live more healthy (eat right, excercise, keep below ideal weight, and educate yourself on a healthy lifestyle)..it is not that difficult but takes some undestanding and passion for life. That much for now...it is about 45 F in michigan, gone for a ride.
