Yeah, and we are supposed to be a group of fierce individualists, but we are all supposed to be individualists in exactly the same way. Silly.

Really? I do not pay full price for a HD T-Shirt or any other what not. I visit the clearance rack, shop on eBay, wait for the dealership to offer a 20% discount or just do not purchase the item. I do the same for my parts. According to this forum I fit the definition of a RUB. I live in the suburbs, I make decent money, and do not live on my bike. Why? I work four ten hour days which means I am up at 4 AM and home at 5 PM. By the time I drag myself home I am tired. I do not "ride" to work because it costs me $10 a day to park and I get a free bus pass. Therefore, I ride when I can which is usually on the weekend. Do not blame me for the high priced HD moto clothes, parts, or what nots. HD, like other companies, are out to make a dollar. Well, HD does not get my hard earned dollar for a high priced T-Shirt. If you do not like HD's prices or anything else call the company; I have.

Spot on! MOCO did a fantastic job packaging the "outlaw" image and reselling it to the public. The Harley culture is interesting because it is opposite to most "ideals" out there. That is, usually a given "style" emulates those higher on the economic ladder than they are. High-end manufacturers have even taken to selling lower-end products to expand their market base, like BMW 1 series, for instance.

Think ****-poor "gangsta" wannabes with all the bling and Cadillacs and whatnot. They will flash cash and get insulted if you suggest they can't afford something (Cristal, anyone?) On the other hand, the Harley crowd seems to hold the ****-poor, rugged anti-social hairy guy on a pedestal. So, they (we) are emulating "down" the economic ladder. But, these bikes are God-awful expensive, so we are in a bit of a catch 22.

It is very ironic (silly, stupid, self-mocking) for so many "bikers" to cling to their sense of freedom while deriding others' free choice.

Sorry for the preaching.

But, good God! Some of these products are awful! (But, much love to the people who like them!)

I don't consider myself a RUB...I financed my bike, i work hard and so does my wife...i ride the **** out of my bike, i wrench on it for pleasure and to save coins... but this happened to me last fall...I work in an office as a Customer Service Manager.. Wear Kakhis and a Polo type dress code... After work i had to ride to the dealer to pick up supplies (gasket, cam shims, oil etc...) to finish my cams swap....I pull up to the dealer on my bike dressed up...This guy with a other model comes up to me and says... Nice bike, you must not put a lot of miles on it... I've got 15000 miles on my 5 year old Dyna Whatever...I said that's nice...walked in to get my parts spoke to the sales manager, service manager and parts manager ...got my stuff and walked out and the freaking idiot is still sittin beside my bike on the steps and says ....so you buying chrome...or some bullshit like that...I said come here...i pressed the mileage button and it was like 60000 miles and he says OH!...he says what year is your bike like 2000..i said 07 he says OH!...Then i showed hime the cams, pushrods, gaskets etc... told him i was heading home to tear up the bike to install all this **** and he says...WOW! i thought you was a Yuppie RUB...
I smiled , cranked the bike and left his smart *** poser self standing there like a DUMBASS...
I am just a well dressed country boy i guess...
