99 has split tanks you need to take off both caps to fill it right or it takes to long one side has a left hand thread and a 4.4 gal tank it should hit reserve a 3.3 and one gal left at least thats what mine did

the "on position" of the petcock allows gas to be drawn from a tube that sticks up in the tank..( when fuel get below this tube it runs out )

when you switch to "reserve " the petcock allows fuel to be drawn from whats left in the bottom of tank...

so , IF you want "more reserve fuel" increase the height of the ON draw tube..simple to do ..hope this helps

Get in the habit of resetting your trip odometer every time you fill up and go by the mikes run. My gas gauge is actually accurate on my Road King but I still ignore it and go by the odometer.
