I use freshly squeezed lemons wit a shoot of old grandad...(NOT) I windex my customers bikes after working on them to get my greasy paw prints off....carb cleaner like 2+2 will peal fresh paint....
Brake cleaner will eventually strip off the chrome. Used to be a lube tech at a Honda (cars) shop and we sprayed all our tools (chrome sockets, wrenches etc.) off with brake cleaner and 6 months later they were DULL. tried to restore it withsome chrome cleaner, but by then it was too late as allt eh chrome had been taken off. If there is a dedicated chrome polish, use that after a wash or windex treatment, but dont use brake cleaner.
Yeah, the brake & electric motor cleaners are very wicked stuff... just stay away from it. I do use it on old truck restorations for serious gunk cleaning but if it hits any finished surface or a part containing hydrocarbons, it's toast. Or if it gets in a ball bearing or roller bearing or babbitt bearing or friction surface, the part may fail.

I use the Windex All Surface type cleaner. Less harsh. Works great. Won't remove wax. Works great on chrome, not so great on paint, but at least won't remove wax/polish finish if you get some on paint. Use detailer type on paint. This is inbetween washing.
