Default 6th Gear replacement

Hi all.

I have been searching for a while but can’t find anything on the subject. I am interested in switching my 6th gear on my 2012 fat bob for something that will have the RPM’s about 2 grand lower than what it is while cruising for better gas mileage. But I can’t find tranny parts, or anyone who knows who to talk to about anything that would fit in it. any help would be appreciated

I don’t want to change pulleys as that changes all gears i just want 6th to be lower and the rest like they are. i had sprocket on my gsxr750 and didnt like how it slowed it down just to drop the rpms a little on the highway

uh - 2 grand lower? As in 2K rpm lower? You are aware that 70MPH in 6th is only about 2750, right?

first off, I don't know of any gear ratio changes available, maybe baker has something, but I don't think so. secondly lowering your rpm that dramatically will make drivability very bad, no acceleration at all in 6th, would be very dangerous in my opinion, secondly rpm matching of going into lower gears might be a big issue. you don't get to change just one gear, you would have to change whole gearset, and again, don't know of anybody that gears that low. might just pay the very little extra in gas. frankly my '09 110 which I built the crap out of, still gets 40mpg in 6th at 75-80mph. yours should be getting a bit better than that

my bike at 75 on the highway is at about 3000,3100 rpm it would be nice to have it lower like 1500,1600, also im pretty positive they dont make any gears for this thats why im asking on heare to see if any one has heard of it, ive search all over with nothing coming up, and it wouldnt be dangerous at all it would be a 5 speed with a very good highway gear. and also either my fatbob is **** in gas or somthing is wrong im only geting about 160 mile to a tank on 93 octane

First U need to learn whats going on with the rpm's of ur motor in stock form before changing anything out.

Wanting to slow down the RPM's by 2k at highways speed is just plain,, Well,, Dumb...

Even Ur 103 won't push Ur bike at 70 mph at 700 rpm's. Besides, that would lug the motor SO bad, it'd really be Harmful to the motor.

Doing 70 mph Ur stock gearing is only turning Ur motor less than 1/2 of the rpm's that it will turn. Plus at 2700 rpm's, its right in the TQ range of Ur curve for Ur TQ power for passing and climbing hills.

Thats why U can't and won't find anything on doing what Ur saying, cause it won't work.

IMO, thinking U need to ride Ur bike a few Ks and then see if U still feel the same way.

Harley's 6 speed is not what some call a true overdrive tranny, BUT Baker, one of the best trannys does make a True overdrive 7 speed tranny's for Harleys..

http://www.easternperformance.com/pr...Set-for-Harley

U can swap out Ur stocker for the Baker 7 speed and it will lower Ur top gear RPM at highway speed by maybe 200-300 rpms.
I will add if U do that I for sure would having at least the STG1 and cams with a good fuel tuner and Dyno

Of course it'll set U back about $3k plus labor for install... If Ur really set on lowering the RPM's in high gear U can go that way.

Let us know what Ur thinking now.

if you read my last post i said i would like it to be at 1500,1600 i just said 2k to say i wanted it lower if i was worried about passing or hill climping i would change gears thats why they make them with (6). ok so baker makes one thats good to know and 3 k on a tranny is not worth it ofcourse. and in the end i will never do anything to the tranny or gears because no one does this kind of work now i know. also the bike dosnt idle below 900 so i dont know where you got 700 from
