I called a friend a couple of weeks ago and asked him if he wanted to go on a "Florida Crew" ride. He was very agitated to say the least. His new Road Glide was still in the shop, engine in pieces. It seems there was a tick in the engine that turned into a knock after about 700 miles. My question is this. Has anyone had any problems with the 103 knocking? I mean the bike is brand new.
No problems here, can hear a little ticking after getting stage one installed but figure it is the injectors firing. Sounds just like other 103's with stage one.
True. But he had some mods done to it. All work performed by H-D. His question now is "are they going to put it back to the way it was"? Or is he going to lose that money he spent on the mods?

Depends on what the "mods" were, when they were done (at initial purchase) and the dealer.
He is lucky that they didn't determine that the mods caused the problem, that could put the total cost on him.

I suppose he should be asking the dealer that question.

I would like to hear the answer to that. My 103 started making noise after about 1800 miles. They said the valve giudes- seals were bad, ended up replacing BOTH cylinders and pistons.
No problems after that- Miracle Mile HD in Long Island- Did the right thing, treated me great. Returned my bike detailed and like new.
