Actually, "FXR" had me scratching my head for a minute (I knew, but had to think about it). If you'd said "SuperGlide" I'd have got it immediately.

Acronyms are all such BS...

No such thing as a 1981 FXR. '82 was the first year for the FXR series. I think the FXRT variant (Shovelhead, chain drive, fairing & bags) was first produced in year model 1983.

The FXRT is out there…you just have to be persistent. Keep checking ebay and Craigslist.

No they're not. They actually serve a purpose to identify an exact model. A Super Glide could be anything from a FX, to a FXR, to a Dyna (three very different bikes)…depends on the model year.

Furthermore, the FXR had many different names throughout its production run…Super Glide, Low Glide, Low Rider, Sport Glide, Disc Glide, Low Rider Sport Edition or Convertible, plus a few more I'm sure I forgot off the top of my head.

My FXD gets mistaken for a sportster also.
Ya gotta love the sportster crew,.. If it ain't a softail or touring bike it gets blamed on them.

I had a friend ask me if my Superglide was a Sportster. I just told him to look again; He did, then realized what it was and said " it's a F#@kin Dyna, Now i feel stupid" This was aguy who has been around Harleys most of his life. The bike has many custom features on it. I geuss its easy to make the mistake at a quick glance. No Biggie I love that bike

Thumbs up

I have a 84 FXRP not done yet...18 years and counting and will never sell it.
However when I do see FXR's and tell the owner "NICE FXR" they do seem to appreciate the comment.

Yep, it's happened to me too, just smile and politlty tell them no, that it is a cult bike only available to special ( not the little bus) people.
