My 74 year old uncle has a 88 fxr that he's owned since new. The only time the bike spent time away from his garage was when it was going for a ride and 1 time to get the bike done over with a stroker kit, new tires, a 6 speed and a complete goin over. This was his 70th b'day gift. I'd rather ride that bike before my Dyna anyday. The bike beat my Dyna every way. Handling and power
No they're not. They actually serve a purpose to identify an exact model. A Super Glide could be anything from a FX, to a FXR, to a Dyna (three very different bikes) depends on the model year.
Furthermore, the FXR had many different names throughout its production run Super Glide, Low Glide, Low Rider, Sport Glide, Disc Glide, Low Rider Sport Edition or Convertible, plus a few more I'm sure I forgot off the top of my head.
You're right. The name SuperGlide covers a lot of ground, used on models from 1971 to today. FXR is specific.
[QUOTE=harleyguy5571;9450001]I rode a 1990 FXR up until last year. The funniest thing ever said to me went like this;
Mr know it all: What kind of bike is that.
Me: It's a 90 FXR
Mr know it all; So it's not Harley, it's a wanna be Harley
Me......Yes, it's really a Kawasaki.
I just stripped off the radiator and a few other parts[/QUOTE
If that's for real that some funny stuff, before I bought my 90 fxrs-sp a bud looked at it and said it's a sportster, don't want it, I bought it a week later for a sweet price. Wouldn't give it up for love or money!
Just as an aside..... it sounds cool to say you ride a SUPER glide, no disrespect intended to other labels, most folks don't know **** from shinola so I just say low rider and they get the drift.

I like the term low-rider myself. Buddy of mine just bought a Low Glide Custom.......fxrc.
"Yup a sporty. Just put the belt/chain on the other side and stretched the frame." I never take it personal, just someone is trying to fit in. Take it as a compliment and ride on brother.
