I saw a special on it couple of yrs ago on Speed channel, I think.
John Parham, of J&P Cycles says he has the real deal, complete with Fondas blessings, and autographed the bike. It's in a museum that Parham heads up. I guess there were two or three bikes, one disappeared, one destroyed, and the last rebuilt by Dan Haggerty, who was in the movie.
Who knows for sure ?
It is my understanding that there were four bikes built. Two Captain and two Billy bikes. One was stolen close to the end of filming and the other was destroyed in the crash scene at the end. In the last campfire scene in the movie you don't see any bikes in the scene because their are none left. Dan Hadgerety claims to have taken the crashed bike and rebuilt it and sold it. There is quite a bit of doubt that it may not have actually been the the bike used in the movie. A number of people have built copies and tried to pass them off as one of the orginals, but I don't think none of them have been verified. Who is going to own up to having a stolen bike?
