I guess my bike is operating right around what it's supposed to be doing. I did not get on the highway at all, and a few things I read said mid 30's is city driving mpg. As far as a good rpm to be at, I try and stay right around 2500-3000. Seems like everything Boggs down and shakes pretty good below that. I honestly don't think my bike has any internal upgrades, it has dual black exhaust that I have no clue what brand exhaust it is. Seems to have the stock intake. Next month I was planning on putting an aftermarket intake and getting the sucker dyno'd and tuned. I bought it used at a dealership and the guy didn't seem to know a whole hell of a lot about the bike. Got a 2 year warranty for piece of mind though.
You can get a small gas can that holds one gallon and put it in your saddle bag. Set the odometer and run her dry. Wouldn't want to run the fuel pump dry more that once, but it's a plan.
06 here. Your numbers seem about right. Should get better on the highway. I start looking around 130ish, hit reserve somewhere around 145-150. Longest I have pushed it was 184 on the highway. I do carry a bottle of fuel in a camp stove bottle but have never used it.
At 200 I hope the gas station is only as far away as I can push the bike. I usually get 42 per, so 210 from a tank. But I'm usually looking for gas at 150-160 cause you never know if you pulled less this tankful.
The gauge is all over the place. Doesn't even move off full for the first 80 miles, then drops like a rock. Always fill up and reset the trip odometer

You've got me thinking I need to get my bike out and go for a long ride to check my math.
