stand corrected. Harley moved the entire operation "in house" beginning with the 2011 production, so maybe there are good and bad years for the trikes. Think I'll just convert my 08 RK when the time comes
Prior to the 2010 models the Tri Glides recieved lots of complaints about excessive heat. My 2010 didn't seem to have that issue. The wife & I rode ours out to KCKS back in august & there was no heat issues even though we were riding in the middle of a heat wave. The longest day in the saddle was 14 hours by the time we quit for the evening.
One more thing, do not buy one unless it has reverse on it. You do not want to be pushing a 1500 pound trike around if you don't have to....
I have a good friend who bought a Motor Trike with their independant rear suspension, and I've gotta say, it was very impressed. I have a history with road racing and am a very experienced rider that has also riden other brands out there as well (tri glide, lehman, etc). Once I got familiar with the bike the handling and comfort was very impressive. He had a mechanical reverse added to his unit that also has a "safety" built in so you can't engage reverse and 1st gear at the same time, it'll shut the bike off so you don't tear anything up. So far I've "borrowed" his bike for a few "longer hauls" and I can't say I've found anything I'd complain about! In my opinion the Tri Glide is a bit rougher ride especially over bumps, etc. Nowhere near as rough as Lehman. Best advice I can give you is, talk to trikers out there.. ask their opinions.. Go to trike dealers and take a demo ride!! No matter what, you've gotta be happy with the ride, and that's the best way to be sure you will be!!!!
I am a harley guy - have a Heritage and a lowrider, but my wife wanted a trike. After I did my research, and and almost bought an Ultra conversion, I bought a Goldwing and had a Hannigan kit put on it. Is is a wonderful ride - plenty of power and no heat issues - the biggest complaints with the Tri-Glide. Check out the Goldwing 1800 forum and the trike trike section.
I bought an 08 softtail deluxe with a Champion conversion. I have M.S. And can't hold up a 2 wheeler so the next best thing. I love it ride a lot just strap my walker on the luggage rack and go. In fact I'm headed for Daytona tomorrow.

I applaud your courage and conviction of not letting your problems stand in your way.
