Just purchased a 2012 FXST Softail Standard. 300kms on the clock and the front brake lever is slowly doing full travel and touches the hand grip. Workshop will repair under warranty Just curious has anyone else heard/have/had this problem. I know of one other faulty bike with the same fault. Bike has factory fitted ABS (standard option). Cheers
Yep! had the same problem. I complained about the front brake lever being spongie. They told me it was normal with ABS?????????? Don't think so!
So in there parking lot the next day the lever pullled all the way back to the grip. My buddy went and got the service manger and then they wanted to do something.
Couldn't find anything wrong but re-bleed the brakes and tightened up all the banjo's..No problems since them.
Faulty master cylinder, hose, caliper or air in the system. That is all it can be.
It could also be a small leak.
One other thing to look for is dry or dirty caliper pins. My Road King gets spongy brakes after several thousand miles. When I do the service on it I clean the caliper pins and lubricate them with dielectric grease. Stops on a dime after that.
The HD Diamond Black brake lines were just issued a recall due to leakage. Not sure if they were used on the bikes in question.
The dealer called me on Friday and had the new brake lines waiting for me. I just set up my service visit this morning to get them replaced on the moco's dime.
Haven't had a problem myself, but Seems there was one other post in here last week i read that was having soft lever brake issues. Think it was on an 11 bike.
