Ryan, a lot great posts here. First, you are to be congratulated for knowing that you don't know enough to ride safely on the streets yet, so you're going to learn the right way from the beginning. No bad habits to unlearn.
My first riding class was a two week motor officer skills class, and the first three days it rained continously. By the end of the class you will be amazed at the things yu will be able to do on your motorcycle, and the safety skills and techniques will save your life and health.
Ryan9977...Don't sweat the rain, you'll probably be hit by a lightning bolt anyway...Just kidding.
Listen to what others have said. You will do fine. The class is designed to make you knowledgeable about entry level motorcycle riding. Later, practicing what you learned will make you a better rider. Don't quit taking classes, reading and expanding your knowledge of riding you will only become better.
I would take an extra pair of gloves if you have them and a small towel just to wipe your face and face shield off if needed. Good Luck and I expect to hear back from you tomorrow telling us how great it was and you don't know why you were worried in the first place.

Ditto what Nellybelle said. We'll be following your posts. You'll do fine!
hey guys so i started my riders edge course last night.....we have our first day on the bike tomorrow morning....there is a 70 percent chance of rain....i have never been on a bike before....i am just very nervous.....any advice for someone.....alot of the people in my class seem a lot more experienced and many have ridden before...i mean i have balance but i am just stressing the F out........i just gotta calm down i guess.....nothin like learning in a storm i guess....ryan
My wife went through the course and it rained both days, not to mention it was about 36 degrees. Now when we run into rain she just handles it. Slow down a little and watch ahead and you'll be fine. On a side note I still remember the first time we hit rain after she got her license. A summer shower and she was grinning from ear to ear.
I assume you survived. Congrats on taking the course. It will serve you well for the rest of your life. I learned in the rain and 20 years later so did my wife...what are the odds.
well the road test was yesterday....the first day in the rain was horrible...i crashed a bike.....many bikes were dropped but everyone is ok...i have never been so cold in my life...it was raining the entire day...probably in the low 40's........there were a lot of other hiccups but it got a lot better the second day of riding...i was a little more confident.....and i passed the test....i don't know what my score was and i probably won't ask.....i got ALOT of learning to do.....i am gonna practice with a friend on dirt bikes for a while and hen slowly take my sportster out on the road.......
did anyone else feel so overwhelmed by learning to ride......i have never shifted anything in my life so it was an experience to say the least......ryan
p.s.-thanks for all the support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you're getting the hang of it. Remember to not cover the front brake, that will save you from some falls. The dirtbike is a great idea, they can take the pounding of a learner with ease. Hopefully you're comfortable with the clutch, Harleys have comparatively stiff clutches compared to other bikes. Just something to be ready for
Good luck and like everyone said, remain calm and just think about what you are doing. In time it will become natural.
When my wife took the course, after the first couple of actually moving the bike under its own power she was totally nervous and scared. I talked to her and offered if she wanted to stop. Nope, she relaxed and ended up finishing the course ahead of the class.
