Ran a test this week filled the tank last Sunday with regular gas for 1th time ever, 4.7 gallons, used my bike all week to work, put 193.2 miles on one tank, filled back today after work 4.8 gallons. I have FXST '07 with strage 1 air, V&H pipes and SE Tunner, since a have my bike never put attention on MPG's, just ride for fun one or two times a week and filled tank like one a moth. Is everbody here got similar MPG's?
Since the price of gas is on regular $4.09 and premium $4.35 on my area, I told to my wife, will use my bike every day for now on for everything!!
I get a range of 48-52 MPG with my 1200 carbed stage 1 Sportster when I check. That's probably 80% highway miles, the rest in town. With 10% ethanol, which we have a lot of in Iowa, I drop to 43-45 MPG. Premium is still under $4.00 here, but I'm still riding to work (35 miles each way) as much as I can.
This is what I do to get the best MPG with my bike, '96 e- glide. 1- run 40-42 psi in both tires. 2- run 15-40 wt oil in the primary. 3- 75-90 wt gear oil in the trans. 4- use 3qts 20-50 wt and 1 qt 1540 wt oil in the motor. And make sure the brakes don't drag. By doing these easy things, my best mileage has been 46 mpg. The only thing left that might get 1or 2 mpg more, would be for me to loose 100 lbs. I go about 325lbs.,,
I'm not saving any money on gasoline. I'm averaging 42 miles per gallon and it's my primary transportation. But I ride the damn thing so much, I'm filling it up all the time. I thought $20.00 (unreal for a motorcycle) a week would beat $60.00 a week in the truck I had. Shoot, I'm spending roughly 60-70 a week on the bike!
I'm going to run the text on premium gas next week to see if is my number are the same, also i just did the oil change myself used H-D's sinthetic next time will use conventional oil and do the text again to see if i can save some $$$$!!
I hear Autozone has Valvoline Vr-1 racing oil on sale now for $3.29 a qt. 4 qts of that is $13.16. 1 qt of Amsoil is around $12 a qt, and 1 qt of Mobil 1 v-twin is $9.50 a qt. So by using the Vr-1 , which gets high marks, that's almost 2 gallons of gas you will be able to buy with the cost savings.,,
