Who really knows if it is legal or illegal? I think each state/county/city has their own rules. Some may be spelled out and some not. I personnally have never seen it spelled out.
Most of these "End Zones" are on private property so my guess is it's not enforceble by the local police unless asked to do so by the owners.
I asked a couple LEO's in my chapter and they said they don't do anything unless the owner asks them. They have no legal authority there other then the federal law of handicap parking regulations.
So if someone has a hair up their crack about it - too bad - get over it. I'm sure someone can find something about you that's reprehensible.
There shouldn't be a need to call people names because you don't agree with them.
I didn't assume anything ... and as far as you and your "retired cop" friend are concerned I say again that you are both wrong for parking where you do .... you just can't face the fact that you are in violation and you somehow "explain" your way out of being wrong. It really is a simple as that, isn't it! Sooner or later it all come down to one of two things ... Who has, or who is, the biggest dick. I'm sure that you'll put me in later of the two choices that I've presented .... that's your choice. Ride safe, and uh ... be careful where you park.
YOU are the one who assumed that we give no consideration to the physically challenged. Those were your words for why what we were doing was wrong. Do I need to quote them again?
YOU are the one who threw out YOUR riding experience to justify your opinion. ("45 years riding " ... blah blah blah).
Seems to me that you're the one who started out with how big your dick is.
You say it's wrong, but the patrons, employees, and owners of the establishment have no problem with it.
If you can't admit that you were assuming facts not in evidence, and that your assumptions were obviously wrong, then that's YOUR problem.

I never park in handicap zones or anywhere near them. Kind of stupid to park in or near a handicap zone. Put your bike in jeopardy with someone that has some kind of difficulties and give them a target to hit /avoid. I do park anywhere else I want. Sidewalk, by the door, in the building, or wherever. Where I park isn't really anyone else's business but we can make it so. I don't care if someone parks near me as long as they stay off my bike. Been riding long enough to be able to get my bike out of most spots and if I have to--I will move your bike carefully. This isn't a team sport and just because someone else rides doesn't make us anything. If you put your crap in the parking lot, handicap zone, fruit aisle, or the ditch. I don't care. Usually don't have a lot of trouble parking or riding. Probably my age and attitude.

I think before any of us posts a "yea" or "nay" comment, we should first get and post the local regulation on parking in a shopping mall "End zone" and then you will have more credability when you bitch or defend your position.
As mmancuso said, if the owner, employee and patrons don't have a problem with it why not just forget about it and go about your way.
If they do have a problem with it, I bet nobody would be parking there in the first place since the owner probably has already told them not to.
You can still run to a cop and point it out to them that they have to ticket the bike. It is your civic duty to blow the whistle is it not?
oldairboater also has a point - do you really want to park close to a handicapped person?
