I am new to this site so please bare with me. I am going to surprise my husband with a trip to the HD Museum in Milwaukee. I was wondering is it wirth the trip? What else is there to do there besides the museum? Thanks for your help.
Well worth seeing. Some people say you can be done in a couple hours and I guess you can if you are just into looking at the bikes and a few displays. Took my mom there on her 80th birthday and we spent 6 hours looking thru the display cases. There is is weath of history in that place. Only reason we left was mom was tired. If you are just here for HD stuff you can tour powertrain not much to see at HQ but there's that. If you're here later there are festivals all over in the summer months and great riding if you are on your bike. Great food and of course the breweries. Hollar up one of us in the area and bet you can find someone to do some riding with.
Another great museum to consider taking him to some time would be the "Wheels Through Time" museum in Maggie Valley, NC. It's a truly amazing place and has the added dimension that many of the bikes still run and the museum owner and his son are quite eager to crank them up for you. When was the last time you got to see and hear a 100-year old Harley run? Once you're there where the museum is, there are a gazillion good roads to check out as well.
We just took the VIP - Dealer behind the scenes tour on Sunday. I'd previously done the self-tour with the audio player and that was about 3 hours and very informative.
The behind the scenes tour is led by one of the museum's archivists and they really know their **** about the displays and how they aquire the different items etc.
Every Thursday at 5pm is bike night at the museum starting May 17.

The casino and Miller Park are very close by. The Domes are kinda lame. Lakefront Brewery tour is great. As someone else said, once it gets warmer, there's something going on almost every weekend on the summerfest grounds.
Awesome tour - been twice and will return again. Call on thew Steel toe tour for times and availability. I did one in York earlier this year and it was worth it. I have also been to the KC Plant as well. Have a great time.
