I've seen stators on older bike go bad within a short time after they were replaced. There tough, the magnet will suckup anything within a half mile.
I always figured the installer screwed it up. Maybe they have some bozos at the factory now.
Sorry doesn't work like that , would be caught before it left the factory . Harley has been cheaping out on materials and cost for years and most parts like the stator come from subcontracted companies for the lowest bids . That means you the end user are getting the cheapest **** they could get away building with . I know of 40 & 50 year old bikes with a couple hundred K miles that still have the original charging systems .
had to have one shipped from another dealer. HD Corp did not have any available. Service guy said they are having a lot of problems with this issue. It took dealer a week to fix a voltage regulator? I am a little upset with dealer and a whole lot upset with Harley. They know they have a problem. What if I was on a cross country trip? That is the reason I bought the Ultra Limited. 875 mile and regulator goes out. That's crap. Thanks for letting me rant. I wrote a letter today to HD CEO. I don't expect a response. We will see. I was ready to add about $2500 of extras. I am now going to wait to see if I have any more issues. In Texas 3 issues within 12 months and they get the bike back. Texas Lemon Law. Thats why I don't want to put any more on it at this point. I don't believe I will get money back for extras.
7 HD's from 07 (July 06 build) to 12. None have had a stator problem. Rode them to the Arctic Circle, Key West, Death Valley and most of the continental US. Always brought me home. In fact no parts failure on any of them ever.
Have a new 2012 Ultra Limited. It has 875 miles on it. Saturday on 200 mile trip the stator went out leaving me stranded. I bought the bike for long trips. Trying to get 1000 miles on it before upcoming trip to TN, KY and VA. Now I question reliability. Anyone else having stator or regulator problems on new bikes?
Did a Iron Butt saddlesore all the way from Louisiana to Key West. Voltage reg went out while we were in the Keys. My HD dealer back in Louisiana overnighted me the new part and all good. I had Just over 2000 miles on our Ultra Limited! They said it was a known problem and to be looking for a recall. FT
I've owned (and own) a bunch of Harleys and only one stator to goou on my 2000 Ultra and about 40,000 miles.
There does seem to be a problem with the 2012 Touring Model voltage regulators, at least according to the postings.
Also, a wheel bearing issue with the newer bikes '08 and up.
I have never had a wheel bearing to bo bad and I've owned a lot of bikes and rode a lot of miles.
