Rocker box replacement how to.
Is there a updated thread about rocker box gasket replacement for a 04 and up sportster. I'm gonna look for a manual but I'd figure I would try here first.

Just what are you asking about how to replace rocker boxes?
How to do it? Its really pretty easy as far as doing if you have right tools and maybe a table todo it on!!!really only special tool you need is a torx wrench and go slow and watch out what your doing!!

My '08 didn't use torx, it used allens.
Pull the seat off, pull the tank off, remove 4 allen bolts and remove top rocker cover...you might have to tilt and twist but it will comew off without scrathing..
Remove the other allen screws, BUT

loosen the rocker arms and remove first! the will warp if you don't!!!!
Just reverse the above to replace.
What I did was use Q-tips soaked in gas to get rid of some of the oil in the screw holes and use red thredlock on the screws and torque to....
dang....
I forgot....
the torque values....
Do not tighten the allen bolts without the proper torque values!!!
You can strip the threads...
Shoot, dude...
take it to the dealer!!!

My spell check put torx it was suppose to say torque wrench!!

Do NOT use Red Loc-tite for the rocker bolts.......Unless you never want to get the rockers apart without F'n stuff up. The heads on the allens will end up stripping before you break the red loctite apart to remove those bolts and you'll need to chase the threads before re-installing the bolts before putting it back together. And I do not remember removing the seat to do my rockers, but yes, the tank should come off. As I said, there's several "How-To" write ups with pictures over on the sporty forum for this job. And yes, get the manual so you have all the torque values for the various bolts and the torque patterns.
