I was kind of in the same situation a month ago. I decided on the new one because I wanted the bigger 96 motor and 6 speed transmission. Plus I kind of like being the only owner of something.

But if you look around you can find some really nice bikes that already have thousands of dollars of mods done to them for cheap.

I personally hate buying used as you can unsure to how the owner did the service requirements, and etc

Our recent purchase of the Classic was used, however, I know the original owner and I know that he is just as picky as I am when it comes to cleaning, service and other things.

I bought mine used, and saved a ton of money. Most HD's are taken care of. Look over the bike and look at the oil, that will give you a pretty good indication.

I bought used, knew the owner and the way it was taken care of, walked into the Harley shop a couple of weeks ago and there sat my bike only in 07 model, color, pinstriping, etc, looked "almost" identical to mine, so, i figured i save a bunch of money by going used in this case.

Ithink you have to consider afew things. One, price of used verses new and intrest rates on new are better then used if you have to finance it.
Two, does the used bike have the stuff you would put on it, I mean its a Harley and you will want to make it your own (taste). Three, service and the care given to said used bike....most take care of their bikes, but if I was having an issue with my bike I would dump it (theres always a couple in the market). Were things done the way you would have done them. I like to solder all electrical connections and shrink wrap them, not everyone does it that way[:@]
Hey, if you find a used (low mileage) bike for the right price..enough said. Go for it!
When I bought the 04, it was only 2 grand more for a new one then a 5 year old one, with only a couple of things on it, and they wern't the things I wanted on it. It had a scratch in the tank....just was better for me to buy new at that time.

good luck

I took my time and found an 05' RK Classic last summer for $18,000. It only had 5000 miles and came with tons of upgrades. That's where Harley really gets you on the new bikes. They don't come with much so you end up spending alot of cash to get it how you really want it. Nobody can live with the stock exhaust, for example, too damn quiet for most people.
