Like what kind of bike is a Deuce? A softail, very customized. Unique front forks and rear fender, lots of chrome. In my opinion, as close to to a Harley custom/chopper as they've ever gotten (as well as the similar Dyna Wide Glide). If that's not what you're goin for, more specific?

It's basically a dressed up softail that you can't get accessories for b/c HD makes chrome wingnuts that fit all softails except the FXSTD. I like my deuce though. It's been a good bike.

If you're looking for the textbook description, here is a definition from Random House. I'm assuming the reason the Softail is named Deuce is because of the "devil" connotation.

First, the main deuce. There is a word deuce that refers to 'two' in several different ways. Deuce means 'a face of a die bearing two spots' and 'a playing card bearing the number two'. This same word also is used in tennis to refer to a game tied at the score of 40 points each (that is, three actual points won by each side), in which a side must score two consecutive points to win. (It's the "two" consecutive points that matter here.)
This deuce comes from the Middle French word deus 'two', from Latin.
The other deuce appears to show the influence of several sources, one of which is our first deuce. The original sense in English was 'bad luck', in sentences such as "a deuce on him!" This apparently developed from the first deuce in the sense 'bad luck at dice', on the grounds that a throw of two on a pair of dice is the worst possible score.
The senses that are more familiar now are usually regarded as euphemisms for devil in mild oaths, such as "what the deuce," "the deuce to pay," "the deuce take it," etc. This usage may be influenced by Low German duus 'the devil', used in similar oaths, but the Low German usage may itself be from French in the 'bad luck at dice' sense.

I don't think this is correct. I believe the Deuce name comes from the fact that the model was introduced in 2000. It has come up before around here and this seems to be the consensus.

I would have thought it was named after the and the automotive "Deuce" coupe. They're similar, slim, minimalist interpretation of a larger car/bike. I don't think the y2k holds water.

Deuces are usually one of the easier Harleys to tesll the modeldue to their unique side pipes, stretch looking tank and back fender. Pretty cool looking bikes.

I have the real story to the naming of the Deuce....One day Willie G and his design team where finishing up the final mock-up of the first bike. They weren't pleased withwhat they had came up with and thought it acutally looked like a made over Honda....not so Harley looking tank and rear fender, not so Harley looking forks, hubcab looking rear wheel....Some even said it looked like crap..... They hadn't given it a name. That was the last thing to do. While they were thinking, Willie G's stomach began rumbling, as hewas heading to the bathroom, he said, "Guys, I gotta go drop a deuce." Suddenly, a lightbulb came on and the Deuce wasnamed.....They didn't think it would be a big hit, but they made it anyway.
