Default First Bike

So I am looking into getting my first bike. I grew up on the back of Harleys, absolutely love them. I however cannot afford a $8,000+ bike, due to school and payments on my car. I was initially going to just look for something cheap, $1500 or, however I am really not a big fan of most of the bikes in that range, but figured being on 2 wheels is the most important thing.

I recently found that there are quite a few Harleys for $3,500-$5,000, mostly Sportsters. I could probably swing those payments. My question is do you recommend that as a first bike? Is that a fair price range for an 03-07 bike?

Cheers

Sure, A Sporty was my first Harley. I live in the Detroit area and see deals around $3500 all the time. Look for a 1200 so it might keep you satisfied for a while.

Good luck

I second the Sporty as a good choice. It's a very even tempered well balanced bike that will bring the best out of a rider and help keep you out of trouble with its good maners especially the 883 versions.

I am about 6'1, 215lbs. Broad shoulders, not much of a gut.

I could do about $100 a month, but I am finishing school this next year so I can't commit to a very long duration of payments, as I will need to start paying back loans. I figure with a $4500 bike I can put down $1500 or so and stretch the 3 grand over 24 months.

I was just now looking at that dyna..that is one hellava deal. Go through harley fnancial and you will get that for 100 bucks a month no problem and have basically a new bike...and a dyna on top of that.

Sportsters are great bikes...but you will trade it off after a year...don't ask me how I know
