Ready for this? I'm 6'7 240 lbs. I want a HD, but not just any, I want the WideGlide. Maybe the Deuce or Night Train. I'm twenty three, stationed in Korea and I'll be back in the states in a month. I haven't been able to find a Harley Shop within a convenient distance from where I'm at here (go figure), so I have to rely on the specs that the HD website give me to make a choice. The final choice will be made at the dealer, I know. I don't want to buy a touring bike just yet, so I've ruled those out. Then, between Dynas and Softails, which is the bike that is most impressive in size? I know the wide glide (according to specs) has all harleys beat on length, plus it has forward foot controls and factory apes. So, if I buy it with a sissy bar and saddlebags, will this be a bike that maybe I can ride? And, should I scratch out the Deuce and NT? I know these questions could be answered once I get to the dealer, but the suspense is killing me, plus I dont want to work myself up for the next month, just to end up dissapointed. Thanks.
Not much layout diff between them, tho you will most likely need even more stretched fwds. On the 'train you would most likely feel like you are sitting 'over' the bike, but probably still OK.
We're the same size, within 5 or 10 lbs anyways. I think I sat on or rode everything in the '07 line, except the sportsters. In those lines, the deuce and wideglide were the most comfortable, but I'd plan on extending the forward controls out 3". The nighttrain wasn't too bad, but I don't think I could have ridden very far.
The big decision point for me was solo or two-up, there was no way my girlfriend was going to fit on any of those with me so I went with an FLHT and picked up a 2nd hand road glide seat.
I am 6'4 & have a Wide Glide. It is not a big bike. I extended forward controls another 2-3", for leg room. I have 16" apes instead of mini apes. A lot of this is style as the mini are OK. With the 16's & forward controls, most can't ride it, so it is a form of anti-theft!!!
Unfortunately, at this size, you make any bike look small. I also have a Street Glide & my buddies remark.."you make that bike look small!"
I to am on the big size. 6'4", 250. Bought a Deuce this summer and well pleased with it. Although leg room is ample, wanted a bit more so just today ordered the Kuryankn extended foot controls which gives another 3 1/4". Also ordered their wide foot pegs with heel rests. Put on leather HD saddle bags, tall sissy bar, pad and also HD's round leather bag which fits over the sissy bar bad and rests on the rack. Real happy for the 1st 3000 miles.
Could use moer room on it. I don't have a problem with the controls being where tthey're at, would be nice to give my legs a bit more stretch though on the open runs.
I think I'm going to get the highway bars and toss some pegs on them - then I should be good to go. Either that or throw pegs on the forks and hope I'm riding in a straight line..
thanks for all the inputs! I appreciate the pictures and opinions. I'm just afraid of devouring the bike with my size, even tho i am still slender. I have another question, is a higher or lower than stock seat the most suitable for you tall guys? Well anyway, the bottom line seems to be if I want it that bad, I'll buy it, and so far, its still a GO. We'll see. Just a couple more weeks until my trip to the dealer... Oh, and about these extended controls and pegs, are these add-ons simple enough to install myself? (im not a total monkey around tools)
I'm 6'7",245lbs.I was fairly cramped on my 07 NT. May have been ok with at least 3 more inches of stretch on the controls, some 4" kickback risere, and maybe even some different bars (JMO).Most I ever rode it was 400 miles straight, and I felt it for the next few days LOL.My knees stuck up almost even with the bars.Loved te bike, it just felt to small...
Well, this couldn't have worked any better. Its a small world I tell you what. Yes, I would like to sit on the bike, if you dont mind, Jet. I'll give you call tomorrow, and I can prolly swing by wherever youre at on the weekend. Thanks. I'm stationed at Osan BTW, and I havent seen your bike around yet, Troy at the harley liason said he sold a WG to someone on base.
