Has anyone ever heard of getting the bell when you get a new bike? One of the ladies at work told me that she is now going to get me the bell since I got the bike. I guess it is supposed to be to fight off the bike gremlins. Never heard of this until she told me about it.
This may be a silly question... Can you ask someone to get it for you? My wife has no clue about these things.... So... I know I cannot get one myself... but the wife would have no clue to get me one.
I do not believe in good luck charms and such, but I like the legend and tradition of the bell, and we have them on our bikes.
Originally the bellHAD to be given to you to have any power, but that aspect of the legend got changed. Guess the bell makers were more interested in selling bells than in the true spirit of the legend.
Still, a fun biker thing. I always get friends a bell when they get a new bike, and I usually have a few around the house that I have picked up at rallies for very little.
You cannot ask for a bell, but I guess it would be alright if you told the wife about the legend in the course of conversation. She should be sharp enough to pickup on the idea on her own after that.

I am so screwed. =)
Have one of your buds give her the idea
dang.... Wife doesn't really know any of the "biker" crowd that I hang with... And many of them don't know about the bell either.
I had never heard of it before coming to this forum last year.
Maybe I can ask my wife to get it for my daughter to give to me.... =)

Some day when you are at the HD shop with her go by the display where the bells are. Most all HD shops have them. Tell her about the legend. When she says "Honey, why don't you just go ahead and get one," then you can tell her that it has to be a gift. This is probably the most manipulation you can do and still get the full effect of the magic.

Bill
