The best helmet is any full face that fits your head and is comfortable. You don't necessarily need to buy the most expensive--they are all certified to the same level.
It may be that you and your wife will prefer different brands due to getting a proper fit. I wear a Shoei but my spouse prefers Noland.
The wife and I got the kevlar 1/2 helmet from moco. I didn't think I would ever get one from there because they are overpriced, but this one is really light... lighter than the carbon fiber I tried. Since it is a DOT helmet, you do get a little of the mushroom head look, but it is the most comfortable helmet I've had on. It's also vented for those warm days. They ain't cheap, but try to find a dealer having a 20% off sale, and it takes the sting out a little.
For a full face I'd recommend the Shoei X-11. It's pretty light and very comfortable(for me). Don't know how Shoei helmets would fit your head, you'd need to check them out. I also have an HD half helmet thatworks great.
I have decided (with all the helmet talk) that I am going to purchase a couple of helmets for my better half and myself. I want her to wear one, and she has no problem with that, but expects the same from me. I really don't want to be scolded on how uncool they are, just looking for opinions on the most comfortable DOT helmet. I am well aware of the Carbon Fiber choices, but I am interested in others as well. I have been told the HJC AC2 open face helmet is decent. Any suggestions? I want to do it right the first time.
Thanks.[&:]
Lets see, you want to buy a helmet for your better half to protect her?? so you have to wear one to, but your worrying about being scolded about wearing a uncoolone?? never saw a uncool helment, I have seen some down right silly ones out there. as for me I wear a Arai fullface as does my wife. I sometimes wear a bell 3/4 helmet in the summer but even then it does not provide the protection of a full face..Shop around, and do take your wife with you..matching helments is the way to go...Personally I don't worry what other people think about my helmet..its my head and my wifes head I'm more concerned about..But I also beleive in let those that ride decide..I have 3 friends that have the fullface flipup helments and they are really great for us older guys that wear glasses, will probably be my next choice.
For my 883R Pewter Pearl I am going to wear a Momo Design ESSENZIALE, matt black. It's cool, light and fashion. I saw in US sites it's sold very expensive, but you can get one in Italy at a very good price (if you want to buy one just write me a message, I already ship in USA).
My second choice would be a DAVIDA jet model, excellent helmet but very expensive.
I can honestly say that the most comfortable helmet is the one you decide. Since we all have different size and shaped heads that decision is a personal choice. I can also say that if you are running without awindshield and wearing a DOT half helmet your neck will be worked very hard.

I did a lot of research and was prepared to spend big bucks to buy 2 full face helmets. Found out that all the certified hemets offer the same degree of protection. I ended up buying 2 THH TS-15 helmets that matched my bikes colors and fit well. They were very inexpensive, so I figured I could toss them if the wife or I didn't like them. So far no complaints.
