Any one have an opinion on a modular or flip up?- this is the only choice for me a glasses wearer.
Why do you think that is your only choice?
I have a regular full face helmet and wear glasses. The only minor hassle is, I have to first take off my glasses when I put on or take off the helmet. Once the helmet is on I put on my glasses or switch back and forth from regular glasses to sun glasses with no problem.

The best helmets I have are the (2) Arai helmets.
www.araiamericas.com
an older quantum ($475) <- factory z-force paint
newer Corsair RX-7 ($785) <- factory wraith paint
Arai is comfortable and quiet, PLUS has removable cheek pads for cleaning and fitment purposes,
tool-less shield replacement, breath guard, chin spoiler, and the UT-MOST bestest ventalation on the market today

I used to have an Arai Signet ($500), but the Signet has a different shape and didn't fit as well
as Quantum, or Corsair RX-7

Heres some nice Arai I just found on e-bay, decent prices too

Today, I went for a ride. I was glad I had a full-face helmet. I must have scared the $hit out of that bird, because it ended up on my helmet and visor. But at least it wasn't on my face or my bike.

I too have Arai helmets. I have a Quantum and a Signet. I also have some other helmets, but the Arais are so comfortable I may never own another brand. It figures that the helmets that fir me best are the expensive ones.

I'll be buying a new helmet soon when the organization I race with upgrades their Snell requirement.

Been using a Schuberth Concept flip up for the past 3 years. Solid, fairly quiet, good ventilation, internal sunshade which slides out of sight when not using, but the most important factor is how comfortable it feels on your noggin! Goes without saying that when spending this kind of money on a modular helmet you gotta try them on ....don't order online until you have had a chance to try them on at a shop....You can find the Schuberth at most euro bike dealers ie BMW, Ducati, etc and online.

My 2 cents on this matter is what feels the best to you. Brand name doesnt always mean comfort. For example some people think Mustang seats are better than Corbin. If you find a helmet thats comfortable to wear ...You WILL wear it. Some things I looked for was maintenance,, removable liners, etc. I bought a motorcyle helmet to save my head not make a fashion statement. Also I read a article from one of the bike magazines that tested some of the most expensive helmets ($400-$700) versus a ($50-$100) cheap helmet. The magazine found that some of the less expensive helmets were actually built better and when tested performed better. Also SNELL has a wonderfull website to look at. Like I said my2cents

I have decided (with all the helmet talk) that I am going to purchase a couple of helmets for my better half and myself. I want her to wear one, and she has no problem with that, but expects the same from me. I really don't want to be scolded on how uncool they are, just looking for opinions on the most comfortable DOT helmet. I am well aware of the Carbon Fiber choices, but I am interested in others as well. I have been told the HJC AC2 open face helmet is decent. Any suggestions? I want to do it right the first time.
Thanks.[&:]
HJC helmets offer the most bang for the buck.HJC makes most of the Harley Davidson branded helmets....

I have three different helmets an AFX 3/4 helmetDOT approved, a Harley DOT approved 1/2 helmet, and a full face Shoei RF-1000 with pinlock anti-fog shield, which is snell andDOT approved. I rarely wear the AFX anymore, I wear the Harley 1/2 helmet on clear sunny days and the Shoei is my winter and long trip helmet. I ride with a bunch of guys who rarely wear a helmet and ofthose who do wear one, theyonly wear a beanie type. I've had a couple of guys give a few negative comments about me wearing a fullfacehelmet, but I could care less. I ride for"MY" comfort and pleasure and for noone else.I wear my full face because it will not fog in any weather and it keeps the road crap off of me since I do not have a windshield. Another quick note,......... ALL FULL FACE HELMETS ARE NOT THE SAME! Dot and Snell standards are not the same. Snellhas much stricter standards thanare required for just a dot sticker. Also thats why in order to race, your helmet must be snell approved as well. Andwith helmets you definately get what you pay for. The higher priced models will vent better, be more aerodynamic, be much lighter and have better quality padding and removeable liners. Now thats not to say that you cant get agood quality helmet at an affordable price. Another note: Is that most every different brand will fit each individual a little differently, so try on as many different models and brands as possible to find the one thats right for you.

Default RE: best helmet?

I have had many different helmets over the years due to my racing and the regulations mandating newer snell ratings... I have had a couple Bieffes,a couple HJCs, a Shoei, and a coupleSimpson helmets and I think they were all good helmets. I did like the Shoei and the Simpsons the best due to the fact that they were quite a bit lighter and fit my head better. But then again they were quite a bit more money too. I would have to agree that HJC is one of the best bang for the buck helmets that I have ever had. I am very skeptikal of modualr helmets because I can honestly say that I have seen three break on different occasions. All three were snowmobile modular helmets that each guy ended up hitting their handlebars with their helmets causing them to break. Unfortunately I have gotten into the habit of not wearing a helmet unless I am going to be out on the highway for an extended period. I just found that for around town I was having trouble hearing cars come up along side of me with the full faced helmet. Now take that with a grain of salt; I'm not saying don't where a helmet. I think they are the best . money you could spend as far as safety goes. I just prefer not to where them around town. I will however be looking to get an open face helmet that is DOT approved and still allows me to hear traffic around me. All in all my best advice to you would be find a helmet that is comfortable for you and that you feel you can where for an extended period of time, even if that helmet does cost you quite a bit more than you were planning on spending. After all, anyone priced out a new head lately?
Cheers
Chris
