Wild turkey built a new still that is up and running.They have torn the old still down for scrap.They just broke ground for a new bottling facitly and also visitor center.I drive past turkey at least twice a day and do work out there sometimes.
Makers is great place and you do get samples there.Woodford reserve does too and if you countinue past it you will find a couple of old abandoned distillies
Not sure if is too late to chime in on this one.....My wife and I did Maker's and Four Roses. Both were very interesting tours. Four Roses wins on the generous samplings at the end. Very cool place also.
Thanks for the info. Pappy's is my favorite. A bottle of the 23 yr goes for around $220 around here. Problem is it takes about a year to get one.
I hear that. Rip Van Winkle sends out 2 allocations a year and I'm on an email waiting list. This year, it took PA less than 2 hours to sell out of the spring allocation online at $250/bottle.

I called around to basically every local liquor store that got Pappy's last year and got on their list. I ended up letting my dad and a very close friend each have a bottle at exactly what I paid for it. I resold a third bottle to a guy online for $420 (shipped). I'm half tempted to sell one of the remaining bottles on eBay considering the insane prices they are going for now, but it's just so tasty that I can't bring myself to do it.
am thinking of:
- jim beam (i like **** creek)
- makers mark (another favorite)
- buffalo trace (i like the label and a local place makes the best martitini with this)
am also thinking of visiting wagners pharmacy and the slugger factory in louisville as well as the shaker village.
based on time and distance between, i can probably only make 2 of the distilleries unless i give up something else
whats the pick among these three, is there a better choice
let me know your thoughts
thanks
If you are short on time there are a few you can hit close to each other. If you are coming off I-65 you can quickly hit Jim Beam, then ride back roads to Heaven Hill, and then back roads to Makers Mark. The other grouping of distilleries are closer to I-64. If you were coming off I-64, then I would hit that group which would include any combination of Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, and Woodford.
They are all cool and give a different perspective on the history. I like Makers and Buffalo Trace tours the best. Four Roses has Spanish type buildings which is cool to see.
