ok, thanks guys all the info gives me a good idea of what may be my problem .....but how bout this ... it has 8000 miles on it so said ...(speedo was junked when i bought it as a salvage bike) it has new plugs and i put the pipes on with new seals ...no leaks that i hear !and it has a new acc pump.
don't know about the intake. but where should i start?? check for intake leaks?? spray carb cleaner around the intake and it should idle up right??
and how should i start narrowing it down?? and also it will back fire when i go to start it sometimes......???
thanks again...
It certainly wouldn't hurt to put new intake seals on it.
I'm currently having an issue with my 2000 TC 88 (77,000 miles) and the mechanic believes it is the intake gaskets.
I'm dropping it off tomorrow so I should know by next week.
When I first got my bike I had problems similar to yours.
First I had the carb rebuilt (found a rubber diaphragm was bad and a few other things).
The next thing I did was replace it with an S&S E. No more problems.
To answer your question on what to start with you should start with the easiest things first. Make A list of what you want to do and do the easiest things first. In your case that would be spraying the intakes.
