Ditto that! They are too cheap to not have a few in the tool box. Cheap insurance.

I have only changed my o-ring once as I recall. Bought oil, filter, the guy asks me do I need a new o-ring? I said sure, thought he'd just thow it in, or charge me 2 cents. No, I think they list for $4.95 each, I bought 2. I remember I almost had a heart attack.

The 'oil change gasket set' that HD used to sell always had the wrong size o-ring for the drain plug (too large in the OD department). They would always tear or push out of the groove. Maybe they've corrected that now but I'd still be checking the fit closely - it should fit tight in the groove.
The rule for the drain plug is no thread dope, lube the o-ring and snug it tight - no torque wrench.

Harley sells a gasket set for the maintenance intervals. It has 3 O-rings and a gasket for the primary. I've bought a couple (5K & 10K). Didn't use a couple of the O-rings at the 5K (Oil change only) so I've got a couple left. PM me if you need one.

A year or so ago, someone here posted the name of a place and the part number for the same "O"ring . They sold bags of like a hundred for a few bucks. At that time I called and ordered a bag. Gave a handful to my riding buddy. Maybe if you do a search (something I never seem to have any skill at) you will come up with the old post and the name of the company that sold them. I have used them and they are perfect.

Had this happen with my truck once. Remove oil plug, insert finger, have wifey(or buddy) place o ring on bolt while u hold if infer over hole and hold bolt in other hand. Replace drain plug only losing a lil but of oil.. Had to do this to my truck once hen I realized the o ring was laying in the oil pan AFTER I put the new oil in..
