So i just recently passed the motorcycle safety class and have been loving every minute that ive gotten to spend on my girlfriends bike (91 sportster). the only problem is that im too big for it. im about 6'5 and weigh around 290. i will admit im not very knowledgable about bikes yet, but i know my elbows shouldnt be resting at my sides. so i was hoping you all had some advice about bigger longer bikes or some easy fixes to make this bike fit me better. girlfriends keeps pushing me into looking at touring bikes, but i just dont like the look of them
Hate to say it, but if you're looking to size a bike to your size, then the HD "big" tourers are the only way to go. Anything else and you're gonna look like an elephant riding a flea. Even then being that big, you're still gonna look a little big even on a tourer. I'm 6'2" and 250, and ride an Ultra. Even though that's regarded as big bike, it feels small to me. A lot smaller than my Gold Wing felt. But it is comfortable. My neighbor has a Sporty, and that thing is like riding a mini-bike, but it's a fun mini-bike.
U could try a road king. And u can always have the foot pegs moved farther forward. Also maybe a wide glide? I'm 6'4 and I was pretty comfortable on the wide glide
I first bought a 2010 FatBoy and after rotating the bars higher, it fit pretty well. I sold it and bought an Ultra Classic earlier this year which I feel fits me better. There are several things you can to to stretch it out, the seat being the biggest, but the fatboy seat fit me pretty well. I'm 6'3".
Any of the touring class will fit you & be comfortable to ride on. My first HD was a 2007 FLH (see signature pic) But now I'm very comfortable on my 2010 Tri Glide. With that said, get the Ride Like A Pro DVD & practice, practice, practice. The lesson on slow speed maneuvering is worth the cost of the DVD alone. The Motorman's advice has saved my hide quite a few times!
Im a bit over 6'2" and 250, I went from a 05 Springer Classic to a 2011 Ultra and the first thing I noticed was feeling a more cramped up on the Ultra. The Ultra is a great ride but I more distance between the boards and seat on the Springer then on the Ultra.
.....and the first thing I noticed was feeling a more cramped up on the Ultra.
........... do ride a Road Glide before you decide.
..... some will say the fairing sits too far away ... but for some of us (6'2, 260), that's a good thing.
