Default How much is this worth??

Any help would be appreciated. Taking this in on a trade and really not sure of the value. Don't know a lot about it but here is what I do know:

1980 Harley Davidson FLT rolling chassis. The front end has been converted to the Road King style nacelle and is all chrome. Also included is the 5 speed transmission for the bike. This bike comes with a salvage title.

I know this isnt much to go on but if this was sitting on the side of the road what would you pay for it?

Maybe $500 as trade in. Salvage Title is better than nothing if you plan on ever building. Bought a 76 FL as a basket case about 2 yrs ago with shovelhead/4 sp in boxes with a rigid frame for $1300. Prices are way down and parts are cheap at swapmeets and EBay. Good luck

Before you buy it, I would check with your DMV to see how many hoops you would have to jump thru to put it back on the road. Might be worth the money for parts only.,,

May not even end up rebuilding it. I may just sell it as is. That is why I am curious as to what I could expect to get for it.

Anyone else have a guess? Does $500 sound about right?

If the numbers on the frame check out and nothing is suspect, you can get around $1500 for the rolling chassis.

It's a good deal for somone on a low budget with a engine trying to get on the road.

It was a good year for features-

Hmmmm...I think you can get the money.

Yeah, the problem is the engine, and the primary. Think about it. The frame is 32 years old, and unless you go to a S&S shovel, so is the motor that you're going to be working into it. That might be fine for someone who is looking to build a chop, or something similar, but there's not a lot available for it. Least, not anymore.

Back prior to 1969, bikes were titled to the engine, not the frame. So when you did a custom build for bikes older than that, things were easier, because they were grandfathered in. But even back in the 60s, these guys weren't working with much older that a knuck, which in 67, was only 20 years old. And once you had the lump, you had the title.

Anything post 69, and you do have to jump through hoops to get it on the road, and what do you have? A 5 speed shovel, with mismatched numbers. Unless you totally know shovels, not a good thing. The hardest thing is finding someone who actually knows how to work on one, and doesn't have alzheimers.

So, Unless he still has the cases that match the frame, then it's not worth a whole lot. Might be to someone who has a crashed frame and good lump, but then, he'd have the title to both bikes. Personally, if I was going to build an aspt now, the furthest back I'd go is an Evo. Lot's of stuff still available for them. You can get a brand new frame and brand new lump for about what you'd pay for a shovel, and have a much better package.

You could buy it, but the market would be small for it, and you'd probably have to sit on it for a while, till you got your money back.

for the most part, any harley roller is worth about $1500. that bike is one of the hardest sellers. it is only good for building a touring bike, its a FAR cry from any chopper. the complete bike isn't very desirable, so the parts arnt ether. on the other hand, that will make a pretty nice bike for someone on a low budget, any twin should fit in there with the flht mounting plate and a little work. with a RK tank it could look pretty nice.

The FLT and the FRX frame are the same thing and they didn't change much till around 1985 . Depending on where you live it could go anywhere from $500 ( mostly for the frontend & wheels to $1500 like been said already to someboby wanting the paperwork . Some states are a lot more lenient about titling than others . Ca is total bitch to work with on builders .

It's worth what you or someone else is willing to pay for it
