Years ago I got a ticket out there for 45 in a 35. The problem was is that I was in a 45 zone and had been for over a block. I took pictures of the 45 zone and Addresses and the next zone where it changed to 35, literally miles down the road. Went to court knowing I had it in the bag but the judge cut me off in the middle of what I was saying, threatened to charge me with contempt if I did not shut up. He refused to review my evidence and said that "his officers would not make a mistake like that". In other words, I got screwed. Hope you have better luck than I did.

The only argument that will work with a judge around here is "I was not speeding".

To the OP, I don't guarantee results, but try a Trial by Declaration. You have nothing to lose. Another option if you haven't had any violations in the last 18 months is to request traffic school, which in most jurisdictions can be completed online. Traffic school = a guilty plea though... you will have to pay the fine plus the cost of school, but it keeps the points off.

Must have credible witness to be charged as a moving violation.. At least that's what the JP in Smith County told me last year..
Yep. I got one of those. It said on the form that it was a civil penalty only.

First time offense, just pay the ticket. Not worth your time to go to court and insurance premiums wont go up on the few points. If you get another ticket in next 3 years (I forget when the points drop off in CA), then ask for traffic school. I got more than a few tickets when I lived in LA.

Don't count on ins. rates not going up. Mine went up $200 per year for 5 years because of ONE traffic ticket.
