Don't feel bad.
I have TWO screws on my derby cover that won't tighten but thankfully they're near the top of cover.
My try some allen screws myself.

Yu'll be fine... and the NEXT time yu strip a TORX, yu can goto an allen either SAE or metric... tap it in and remove carefully!!! Drilling is last resort, then helicoil.

+1 on the helicoil, we use them a lot where I work when things like that happen. Done right, you cant hardly tell it was repaired that way.

if it's only a quarter of the thread, i wouldn't mess with helicoils, etc. just be careful when you are tightening that one down to not put much torque on it. well, for that matter, be sure not to put much torque on any of them, the spec only calls for about 8 ft/lbs.

i also use a little dab of anti seize on the threads as well.

you wanna know the real bugger of it all? once you had the head of the bolt drilled off, you could have turned the remaining piece of it out by hand (probably)......

Rule of thumb engineering designs use 75% thread engagement, and a length of engagement of 1.5 times the diameter of the screw.

So if the screw turns more than 7.5 turns,it will be fine.(based on a 1/4-20).

There is a stainless 12 point fastener kit. I prefer them to allen heads. I have them on both of my bikes. Just another option.

Run a 1/4 20 tap in there to chase the threads Run a new bolt in and forget about it.
The torque on those is only 90-108 inch pounds....that ain't much

That's what I'd do, run a "bottom-hole" tap in to clean it up. Instead of thread sealer, maybe use thread tape.
