Starter issues.....again
Roughly 1 month ago I took my 99 softail custom in to have the starter drive replaced, the replacement was perfect, and the shop only charged me 180 bucks. I rode the bike, starting it on hundreds of occasions after the fix with no issues. Then 3 weeks later, clunk, clunk, clunk (the sound of my starter when trying to start.)
Mind you, with about 5 seconds of this intolerable sound, it would kick over and start. So of course, being so mechanically NON-enlightened, I took the bike back to the shop. The guy who owns it told me if it was a malfunction of the starter drive, he would cover it.
So I call the shop about 20 minutes ago, and he tells me I am missing a few teeth off my starter gear, so he had to order a new gear AND the 'small piece' that connects to the gear.
I guess what I am trying to ask here is;
Does it seem fishy that this starter problem would happen just a few weeks after having the drive replaced?
If not, would the 'small piece' that connects to the gear be the piece that is connected to the starter drive itself?
And lastly, what would you suggest doing in this situation, IF my situation isn't merely a normal occurrence?
Thank you all very much!!!
Thanks for your feedback by the way! Much appreciated
