It sounds lame but I just get the cheap $10 ear buds at Big Lots. They are cheap, sound great, and they last. Until I break them. I've been through 3 pair so far. Because of rain or just losing them. No way I'd spend more than that for them. They aren't any better so there's no point.
I bought a pair of Skull Candy for $25 at Best Buy. They sounded great, but with the headphones plugged into my phone the cord gets tweaked/stressed while the phone is in my pocket. The wire at the plug eventually failed. I bought a $5 pair at Big Lots, and the sounded ok until the cord wore out in the same way. So unless I go with a different setup (handlebar mount for phone or something else), I going to keep wearing them out after a few months of riding. FWIW, some of the $5 ear buds sound better than others, and some even have the pause button on the cord. One pair even had a microphone so I could answer a call - I don't care to make a habit of this, but I was surprised the caller could hear me with the wind noise. I can't remember which brand I liked best, but for $5 I'm not expecting super hi-fi.
