So I noticed yesterday the cable under the starter was saturated with oil. So I call the dealer and ask about it, he says its the clutch cable. Quotes me off all these numbers, which adds up to around $300! My question is if anyone knows if my extended warranty covers this? I haven't done any mods to the bike, other than pipes and cosmetics. Is this normal wear after only 3400 miles? Please don't flame me, don't have a lot of time to ride, YET! Anyway, can someone help out with this? I have the service manual, so if the extended wont cover it. I'll try and do it myself. Not very inclined but, not gonna pay that much, when the cables only $60!
Thanks
I find it funny that the service dept. diagnosed what caused your leak, over the phone?????? I work @ a Platinum Dealership (top 5 in country) and we'd never do that. Could be an o-ring, loose drain plug on tranny, gasket, etc.
I'd take some degreaser, rinse off and see if YOU can pinpoint where it's coming from. Keep in mind, if you take it in, it'll be 2-3 weeks. Take a little time and you'll probably figure it out on your own. Good luck.
regardless... ext warranty should cover it... my King had a leak, which they diagnosed to be the clutch cable... 50 buck deductable covered labor and install of a new oem clutch cable.. if you have put on different cables, then you would need to most likely pay the difference in cost of the cable from oem stock.
Thanks guys. And tazz he actually did say it might be just an o-ring. But ya, think I will try and figure it out on my own. Sure seems like a lot of money for a cable replace. So again if the ew wont cover it, I'll take a crack at it. Thanks again guys.

How could dealer diagnose the exact cause of leak over the phone?
I am told....the stock cables are susceptible to leaking at the crimp area. I just had an Indy put a new one on my Ultra, he replaced it with a Barnett. Said they were the best. My bike is clean down there for the first time since I've owned it (1 year and 10,000.). I can't tell you the cost of the install because he was doing other work on the tranny anyway, but he charged me $65.00 for the cable and it is a much better looking one than the stock. (Plus is don't leak.) I love HD grammer... you can get away with alot. Not to mention spelling (grammar).
I had fluid leaking from the adjuster on the clutch cable and it had also saturated the cable. Took it to dealership they said o-ring and possibly gasket, they changed both. I drove it home 40 miles away and parked it, 30 minutes later oil leaking again right down the cable. Called dealer and was told to bring it back when I could. I talked with the service manager about the problem. I am and have been involved in maintenance of all kinds just not motorcycles. I said for oil to be pushed up the cable it would have to be under pressure. What about a vent plug or tube or a breather? Is this possibly plugged, reply NO I don't believe that would cause this. So they replace the cable saying it was worn allowing the oil to move. I pick it up ride about 250 miles and guess what, the new cable leaks oil too. I checked this HD forum and saw that someone else had a plugged transmission vent tube. Myself and a coworker who rides checked this out and hello it was plugged solid at the end with what looked like mud. Cleared it out and wiped everything down and have rode around for about 4 days now without a drop of oil anywhere.... Thanks for the tip... Forum
