Couldnt believe what i saw earlier today. A guy on a full size scooter was in front of me at a stop light and I noticed him looking down and doing something with his left hand near his crotch. I thought he was playing with himself but when the light changed he kept looking down as he accelerated. I pulled in the left lane to pass him and when i drove by saw he was still looking down at his cell phone while trying to type out a text message! This was in heavy traffic on a 4 lane road with traffic lights and many stores (traffic constantly coming in and out) with speeds up to 35-40. I stayed with him for 2 more lights and as I turned off he was still playing with his phone. God only knows if he made it home alive, if so its only a matter of time....
It wouldn't make me mad if they outlawed texting. I mean cell phone companies had to shut down texting. Yea you might get a fine for texting while driving but if they killed someone then what too late. IMO anyway.
Tuesday, on the way home from work, I saw a guy(during rush hour) on a Suzuki Vstrom tour bike dialing coordinates into his dash-mounted GPS. This is on the highway.
Two evenings ago a 19 Year old ran smack into a car signaling for a left turn on a two lane. She pushed an old lady who was stopped and waiting to turn into the opposing lane, and of course the woman got hit by oncoming traffic, and later died in the hospital.
Yesterday an older woman pulled back into traffic from the shoulder of the road without adequately checking traffic and was killed when she was struck by a truck pulling a horse trailer. The truck driver was not cited.
Were they texting or chatting? Who knows? But familiar accident characteristics in both cases.
I saw a guy on a BICYCLE pedaling and texting back in May!
I am all in favor of Darwinian Theory resolving the matter if not for the multitudes of potential innocent victims.
