About 100 miles into a 300 mile ride I was rolling through West VA and BAM! A deer jumps out in front of me. I was doing about 60 and hit him broadside. I just braced and held on. Bike stayed up and I stayed on. No damage (except to the deer). Feeling pretty lucky!
Thanks to all for the props. I'll take the bike over to the shop and have them give it a once over. I hope this is like lightning and only strikes once in my lifetime!
So you're saying that you didn't strap the deer to your passenger seat or sissy bar and take it home? Too bad. Meat is expensive now days. I'm glad you managed to come out Ok. Supposedly there is a video somewhere on youtube of a guy on a crotch rocket splitting a deer in two but I haven't been able to find it. Since someone mentioned deer running into the side of their vehicle, a buddy of mine had one run into the side of his appliance repair van. Him and his partner stopped to see if it was ok and it was still alive with it's head stuck in the V of a couple of tree trunks. They managed to free it and it ran off. He was pretty close to his house when it happened. About two weeks later the same deer rammed into the side of the van while it was parked in his driveway and then ran off into the woods. I don't know what he did to that deer to start the vendetta.
It looks like he splits it in half but its really just his fairing exploding. Lucky guy too, scootin at 85 leaned in a turn.
Glad you made it OK!! and your bike! Now on to the important stuff...what did the deer dress out at?...LOL. I always drag them home and eat them to get them back!
Deer scare the crap out of me. I had one broadside ME in my delta 88 station wagon, and it knocked the back end of the car in the other lane. I just imagine if I was on the bike.
Well this one did happen to me in 08-31-08 hit me broadside knocked me out and laid the bike down totaled. It happened at the bewitching hour of 8:15pm I still ride just trying not to get caught night riding The op in this post is lucky and glad you are ok stay save and stay in the wind
