I got them for my new Super Glide. Simple to install. I got them for function in case of stupid noob tricks like dropping the bike in a parking lot--been riding since the spring and haven't dropped a bike yet but I assume it will happen eventually. Tastes are all subjective but personally I don't think they are all that bad looking either.
The only thing that I wonder about is what happens if they touch down in a turn at higher speeds? The pegs just push out of the way when scraping. I suppose the guard touching down would put some nasty torque on the bike. I wouldn't want to find out.
If they touch down in any kind of turn, you are already on your way down.
Love um or hate em..........They save paint jobs and injury.........dam near like a back up kick stand when she goes over. Seen em in action a few times......They work well.

My footpegs and exhaust on my '11 FXDWG scrape long before my engine guard gets close to the ground. I wouldn't worry about it scraping. I've got mine for function and comfort. I haven't been able to find extended forward controls for my bike, so I put highway pegs on my guard.
