Default Slower

Took my new Ultra out for some break-in miles. Today's ride through Northern AZ was punctuated by a couple of showers and lots of great scenery. Didn't take many breaks since I was really trying to stay out of as much weather as I could.

Kept it safe and sane, varied the speeds, roll-on's and off's, let folks who wanted to go faster do just that. Even at that, I covered 400 miles in about 6 hours and 45 minutes.

It was a nice change. Often I've found myself riding pretty aggressively, since the other bike lends itself to that with precision and power.

Riding the Ultra is a little less precise, but once you know the envelope it does very well for what it is. On the other bike, the ride is kind of about the bike and performance. And that is a lot of fun.

On the Harley, the ride is about taking your time, in a good way.

Nice post. Would LOVE to take it slower. Smell the roses etc.... but HOW do u do it?

I get frustrated and want to get to where I am going. Be it the store or cross country. I am too excited when riding and feel like I ahve to get there already even if there is NO rush.
You have it RIGHT! Slow and enjoy but yikes! How?

I wasn't out to impress anyone, or really get anywhere except where I was going...wherever that was going to be.

It was that simple.

You will be very surprised just how much an Electra Glide can be pushed. Back in California I used to ride with a bunch of BMW riders that loved to push the envelope and I could keep up with my EG. Couldn't leave them in the dust but could hold my own with them. At least I was surprised.

I've gotten much better at going slow, which is ironic because I always find myself dumping money into go fast parts.

I've really learned to just kick back and roll thru the winding back roads of western NJ and NYS.

And, every once in a while, give the throttle a good roll for kicks.

Glad you are enjoying your new Ultra.

VHPD,

Simply said yet it carries a lot of weight with me. I was thinking it is now ingrained for ever to be in the rush-rush mode considering how I was brought up. But what you said gave me new hope and confidence that I can slow down truly enjoy the flowers.

And like what zer0t said, every once in a while give the throttle a good roll.

There is a lot in those few words and thank you.
