Saturday I decided to torture test my FXRG leather coat and pants in 25 degree weather, 30 mile an hour winds, and 15 degree wind-chill. My goal was to ride a minimum of one hour straight no matter how cold I was. I am happy to say that not only did I survive but I was very warm the entire time. The only failure was my hands, they went numb! To fix this problem I went to the dealer and purchased 10 dollar liners for my gloves. I was looking at the FXRG gloves, but no way was I going to spend 175 dollars and be disappointed! The gloves I already had seemed just as insolated except they lacked the armor that Fxrg gloves had. So after doing some shopping and BS'ing with the dealer I went back out for another hour ride to test the liners. They worked perfectly with only just a slight chill in my hands. Any body using ski gloves?
Just a note it was pretty fun plowing through 40 mile an hour cross wind gust, but the bike handled great. It made me laugh when cagers gave me the what is this idiot doing out here in this weather. Needless to say there were no other bikes in site on the road, or at the dealer!
Also go to really test my new 2.00 Rush slash downs. (I would have road naked to test them anyway!) Sound and performance improvements were awesome!
I've a different brand of leather jacket however, the key is that it is a heavy leather like yours. Layer the clothing, and I agree with you there doesn't seem to be any cold that will stop an hour ride. The hands are the problem, I have and use the Gerbing heated gloves to solve the hand problem. I also have a fairing (bat wing) I'm putting to gether to help with the wind on the hands problem. My winter riding is if there is no snow or Ice on the road, I'm riding.
