I like the Haulin II paintset on the HD website. I am just not crazy about black b/c it is too hard to keep clean. But I am thinking I can do a similar job at a paint shop with different colors. I have priced some shops and they are all pretty close to the 3k-4k price here in So-Cal. Tins, side covers, and bags. I seems that once you use more than one color the price jumps considerably.
My wife got the 07 accessory catalog before I got home, and started looking at the custom paint sets. She got so excited when she saw the Burst Blue with Tribal Flame for the Deluxe that she accidently ripped the page out of the book. I called all of the dealers in our state, and none of them were going to get it. We were about 500 miles away from home, visiting a relative in a nursing home, and decided to stop in at the local dealer. They were picked to get one set, but it wasn't due to ship for 2 months. The wife almost peed her pants! Bought the set and a bike there. Don't have the new tins installed yet. She's gonna ride it for a year before we transfer the paint set. The paint is REAL nice. #84 of 150.
At one point last winter I had two tin sets in my posession that I had won on Ebay forabout 1/4 the cost of retail.
As you can see I kept the Alien Spider tins and sold the "Fast Eddie" flames. I also sold my stock tins on Ebay. When all was said and done, financially I broke even.
To this day I regularly surf the tin sets on Ebay. It's an addiction! [sm=type.gif]
Attidude does great work & is very reasonable. About 1500 for mine after the exchange of my old tins & shipping charges. They even ground off & welded the rivets on the front fender for a smooth top. Scott was great to deal with.
