Default Battery

So, the bike has been running great, 2010 Ultra. Rode it yesterday morning to work and all was well, no problems. Went out after work to go home and nothing. It was totally dead and I mean totally. I tried to jump it from a car battery and it would just click. Is it normal for a battery to go dead like this with no notice, no warning? Nothing was left on so I didn't drain the battery over the day. I felt like crap!

I think it is kinda unusual in two respects - 1 - battery only 2 years old, and 2 - dying with no warning. The only time my battery died with no warning is when I left the lights on!

I would remove battery, charge it with a car charger, not a battery tender, and if it doesn't take the charge, new battery. Could be alternator issue as well, so before new battery, I would check out the alternator charging level.

If a car battery didn't work either, then I doubt the problem is your bike battery.
You might want to check for loose wires, etc.
Does you headlight go on?

I just replaced the battery on my 2010 Ultra Limited. Similar situation, just died, no warning. Although it sat a couple days in the garage and when I went to start it it just clicked. Nothing left on and no issues before that.

I had the EXACT same thing happen on my '09 SG when it was about 2 years old. I tried jumping it, I tried taking it out and charging it over night. Would not take or hold a charge no matter what. It died instantly, just like yours. Never found out exactly what happened, but the dealer replaced it under warranty no questions asked. Would suck if that happened on a lonely road somewhere.

It pains me that a battery doesn't last more than 2 years. A replacement Harley battery is $170!!! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one. I guess if you want to run with the big dogs you got to have the best.

Check the battery and starter cables and can also be the starter itself.

Summer can be very hard on batteries and when a cell goes bad, it will take a battery out in a matter of minutes. Happened to the battery in my Corolla just the other day.

Battery in my POS Dodge dies suddenly a couple years ago. Have also had bike batteries go bad suddenly; no warning, on my '01 Lowrider; 6 months old. Kepp the battery on a tender 24/7 & it will last longer than you will keep the bike.

Feces occurs.

Buddy had that happen to him on his '10 Road King a few weeks ago and left him stranded. A tow to the dealer, full check-up, only thing they found wrong was the battery. Installed a new one and everything else checked out ok. No problems since...
