Default Street Glide Apes

I have a 2012 SG and want to go a little higher than stock. Stock is at 8" and I was thinking of going to 10". This way my hand will still be even with the top of the fairing for wind protection. I believe I will have to change the clutch cable, but all other wires and brake cable should be able to stay the same. Harley will tell you it will not work. I beg to differ. What have you guys come to realize? Also meaning I have the fairing apart I am going to go with the ember red inner fairing also. This is my winter project

I went with 10" Monkey bars and extended all my wiring BUT if you stay with external wires (except TBW) everything will work. Except for the clutch cable just some re-routing will work.

Monkey Bars have the 90 degree angle in them? From what I have heard you can go with a 10" mini ape that looks just like stock and just have to change the clutch cable. I want to keep my hands in the fairing rather than over it so I don't have the wind hitting my hand all the time. I have been trying to find a set of 10" bars but so many styles. There was a guy selling a set of 10" on here and they looked like just want I wanted, but I cannot find his post anymore

Gotta agree with ya Dave. I see apes over the windscreen and I wonder why have the batwing to begin with? But it does look killer! Like the OL in her high heels wearing band aids on her heels, looks good feels like crap. Lol

I don't remember who it was but I remember a post saying something about the mirrors in the fairing not useful at all. I am just trying to keep my eyes open to see what best 10" mini ape would work best for me. That Paul Yaffe one looks nice also, but they are all different.

Its just I don't understand how some have to change their cables/wires and some say they work just fine. I can see the dealer saying you have to change the cables because they want to sell this to you.

Because the touring bikes are all different when it comes to cables. Lots of folks will run their cables tighter than others too. You also have to consider that not all 10" bars are equal. All the manufacturers measure differently...I can tell you that on my 2011 SG, I had to run a new clutch cable and extend the wires. I could have gotten away without the wires but I didn't like them that tight. On my 2012 RK, I had to extend just the wires to go to the 10" and add 8" to go to the 14s. I could have gotten away with going just plus 4 or 6 but wanted to add insurance for later. Cables and brake lines are a PITA to change...

I found a set of Paul Yaffe 10" bars on ebay and I talked with the manufacturer on these and he said everything will work with these. So hopefully he isn't feeding me any liners, but these sound the most interesting with me so far.

I totally agree all bars are measured differently. I have seen pics of people putting 11" santees on and the bars are higher than the fairing and if you work with the 12" mini ape from harley they are right at the top of the fairing. Just depends I guess.
