Default Need trip advice

I am planning a trip to South Carolina (Shaw AFB) to visit my son and then a side trip to Jacksonville Fl to visit my brother. I plan on being gone about 12 to 15 days. The big question I have for you experienced riders is how far do you travel in a day? I'm thinking 500 or so miles as a leisurely cruise. I kind of need an idea as I have to plan on how many motel rooms I may need etc... How far do you go and any good motel chain you would recommend? Thanx for the advice

First of Big Respects for your service.

For me at 39 years old, and on a 92 Fatboy, no shield.....400 miles is easy....500 miles on a hot day is a long day....600 miles only if their is a free piece of ***** on the other end.

On your ride, 500 shouldn't be a problem especially for a Marine

Fubar

Edit to add, I am a member of CAA(your equivilant to "AAA") I can go on line and they will map out my route and also hotels, motels, campgrounds, ***** houses(J/K)along the way...you should look into it

Sounds like a GREAT trip! Iprefer to ride 500-600 miles per day depending on the weather. Anymore than that and you'll get real tired.

Hampton Inns and Jamisson Inns are real nice hotels and are not too bad in price. When are you taking this trip?

How many miles will you be riding each way? Are you use to long distant rides? A lot of riders that are not use to long trips, don't havemuch trouble with long hours the first day. The second or third day is whensome ridersstart to get tired and sore fairly fast. It is mostly up to the individual and how comfortable your bike is for you.

Hey Heather and other folks,I plan on going around June 9th my son gets out of school on the 8th and will stay at his moms. I plan on doing some tune up rides, a couple up north and one down to visit Heather and Sean in Indy. I'm just trying to get an idea of how long to sit on the RK each day with no definatetime line in mind.

500 Miles a day is about right. However I really dont like booking my rooms in advance then if I want to ride longer or shorter I have that option. Rooms are usally pretty easy to find.

Depends on the roads you're riding. If you're riding on the super slab than 500 days isn't outrageous. If you're taking back roads than 500 miles would be a very long day. My suggestion would be to take back roads and plan on about 350 miles a day.

I have ridden my RK 12 hours more than once.Twice with my wife on back.Stop every hour or so stretch, whatever and go again.I really was no more tired than being in a car. I love the long trips and look foward to it again.

500 miles per day on the freeways is cake. I prefer to camp. Microtel has clean rooms from what I hear. I would also advice not booking prior to the trip.

I'm just north of Jacksonville and would love to do some riding with you while you're in town.
