I'm well aware, if you could tell by the .cd and frontal area reference. If you can show data, that would be preferred.

The difference, I guarantee, is so insignificant that windshield, bars, and rider weights all contribute.

Entirely dependent on the windshield. And supposedly the batwing is better for passengers.

As some have said, you need to get substantial seat time on both, then decide. Rent one of each for 24 hours at a time. Note what you like and dislike. Ride in varying conditions. Figure out at the end what is for you.

For me, it's the RG hands down. It's incredibly stable, especially when you are eating miles on the highway. It also feels a lot lighter at very slow speed manuevering. Plus they are ugly enough every 3rd bike you pass doesn't look just like yours.

See my thread about my experience @ demo days at my dealer this past weekend....I rode both, and it changed my opinions on both the SG & RG. I had rode them both before, but this time payed more attention to the touring bikes and how they felt/handled.

Get the SG, RG's are the rage again this year, gained in sales to almost 1/2 SG levels and growing. This means they are outselling SG's in the last 2 quarters. Buy the one U won't be seeing everywhere, cause 2 years from now RG;s will be everywhere...
Besides, if U want in on the baddest bagger contest, RG's customized are the winners this year, and there were a bunch of bikes in this contest, mostly RG's so if they are building the future for us to see and vote on, these shows turn into RG big wheel, fat fender, carnival colored, show bikes... and many of the ideas developed for this show during Sturgis become available on future kits or individual product sales.
And they are doing a ton of these new ideas on RG's so as the RG's grows in market share, easier availability for all of this add on stuff and a much wider selection to use to make an RG different... It used to be much harder to find stuff that was RG specific, say in 2007 as an example, it was my first year of RG life. I will never forget my attempts to get the trailer hitch that would fit... Finally built one out of the three I ended up with... Today it is MUCH better.
Do as I say and not as I do!!!!

What about an Electra glide. Aren't they the same thing as a street glide with a tour pack but cheaper?

Based on personal experience, I disagree with Deuuuce. The shark nose handles wind gust from the front with much more stability than the bat wing. It is not dependent on the windshield at all. Wind turbulence will move the bars on a bat wing while it is not noticeable on a shark. I have ridden many miles on both, and this is my experience. Deuuuce is correct that the bat wing is easier on the passenger. I am assuming that this is related to the distance from the faring.

Saw your thread Sharkman, good read and appreciate the insight. Have friends with both and they all are very adamant about their bike being better. Aesthetics being what they are, i would like to know about function more than anything. I intend to ride both before i make a decision, but know that long term riders of these bikes are aware of issues, good and bad, that come with each. Wind buffeting for solo and two up (come with the shields they come with) is one of the things that you might not find on a short rental. Side note...There are always new members coming in and not all are just starting on their rides, so a new thread about an old topic can always be refreshed. If this thread is considered overdone by some, aren't there other threads that you can go complain about?
