Default What do you think???

I purchased the GPS from "MY" dealer on July 9 and had them install it. Charged me 799.00 for the GPS, 54.00 for the mount, and 3 hours labor (in addition to my stage 1 kit, slip ons, an 1K service). I also spent 25K on my bike with origina work in the past 2 months there.

Okay, so I call and ask if I can get a 200.00 store credit on my GPS since Harley just lowered the price from 799.00 to 599.00. They are giving me a hard time!

I figured it was like any other retail store (circuit city, Sears, best buy etc...) where if the price drops in 30 sometimes 60 days you get the difference back. I called two other dealers in the area and both would give me the 200.00 credit no problem if I had purchased the item there.

What do you folks think, am I being unreasonable? I'm thinking about switching dealers even though I bought the bike from these guys.

Hi Joe,

If this dealer is ready to throw away a good customer over $200, he's nuts! The good will is worth 100 times more. Don't give up yet, but keep us posted.

Howdy Joe, I don't think that it hurts to ask your dealer about savings. How have you been treated otherwise? I don't know if I would change just because of one thing, and I also would expect the other dealers to say that since you didn't buy your bike with them and they might just want you to feel bad for not doing it. I've been lucky, I haven't had any trouble yet and I hope that I don't because the next dealer is a couple of hunded miles from home and I don't want to have to travel that far for warranty work.

I quickly learned from this site the term "Stealers". It fits mine perfectly I was thinking it but didn't have the word for them.

This site has become my "service center" I don't expect any service from the HD dealer's. Which is sad to me.

The industry is growing and I guess the business has seen such tremendous growth they forgot the days of AMC.

I'd like to see a poll taken of HD service centers rated by the people that ride them. And force the low rated dealers to hang signs of shame and they couldn't be taken down until the rating went up. It would quickly change the business.. either clean it up or close it down.

Hey MAC can we start a poll of worst to best dealers state to state with feedback of why they rated the dealer that way? Not trying to cause a flame here, but it seems a ton of people have the same bad experience, slow service, no service.. price fixing….

Some one will say this better then myself I believe there are 2 different kinds of Dealers. Ones that buy directly from HD and ones the pay MSRP and mark up to turn a profit. My stealer told me this, not sure what to believe anymore from them.
I have come to believe this site before I would believe my stealer for sure.

I think I'd definitely have a talk with the manager and let them know that they could be losing some serious business. Or you could just take it back (the GPS) and get a refund and go somewhere else. I'd definitely be raising the BS flag.

I hear you Springer, and to be honest I'm not sure what to think at this point. The folks are okay but a few things have happened that have me concerned. First was the hole that punched through my tour pack because the screws were installed upside down! Sure, the service guys took the bike in and switched the screws right away, put a little glue on the hole and put the lining back down. I think they should have replaced the tour pak. The bike was only a few weeks old.

Then there's the GPS install, 3 hours???? Folks on this site have done it in 1 hour???

Next was the autoadjust backrest I purchased for 360.00 dollars. The darn thing didn't work to my satisfaction, it just wouldn't lock in place consistently. It seemed better off the bike with no weight on it. I had to jump through hoops to get them to take it back and give me a store credit on it. The guy in charge of their parts department is a real piece of work. I've spent 25K there at the point that I tried to return the backrest and it was the first and only time I tried to return anything.

I'm lucky in that there are 4 dealers near me. One just 20 minutes away, these guys are 30 and two more within 30 or 45 minutes. It's too bad 'cause the guy I bought the bike from is very, VERY good.

The guy "in charge" of parts is supposed to call me back if not today tomorrow. I doubt if I'll hear from him. He first gave me a song and dance about how it's a lose lose situation for them and me since they paid a lot for the item etc... etc... BS if you ask me, they are one of the richest/largest dealers in the area with the owner having at least two dealerships. When I told him that two other dealers in the area I spoke with would give me the credit he asked who the were (like he didn't believe me) then said he'd call back.

What was the date you bought the unit? The MoCo lowered the price before, it's listed on their webpage effective that day...maybe that can give you some ammunition. After that, take it to the regional guy.

I'm not sure what you mena by the MoCo and effective date... I paid for mine when I picked up the bike on July 9. But here's the latest. I called HD Customer support (at the main company) and explained my situation. Not trying to get anyone in trouble, just wanted to know what their policy was. Since I believe that HD is "kind-of" a franchise, then they must have some policy or rules on this type of stuff.

Apparently the woman I spoke with didn't quite get it, she did some research and did call me back and gave me an answer of "The compnay will not reimburse me the difference" ??? I wasn't looking for the main company to do anything like this??? Anyway, I did learn that HD is now getting the units for less from Garmin (probably becuase Garmin now has the Quest II), so HD lowered the price. HD was not offering their dealers any rebates for units sold etc...

So I called my local dealer back, the guy told me he hadn't had time to look into it, call him back in 10 minutes. I called back in 20, he was on the phone. But, surprisingly enough, he did call me back. He told me basically the same thing that corporate told me. That HD did lower the price, they weren't doing anything for the dealers about it, in fact they still had 1 unit left that they'd have to sell at a loss. He offered to split the 200.00 dollar difference with me with a 100.00 dollar gift card.

I thanked him and I do feel better about it, however, I still get better service in the parts area at other dealers in my area so when I used up my credits for the back rest and the 100.00 gift card, I'll be moving on.
